Since our family decided to embrace minimalism last year, I’ve really pushed myself to come up with meaningful gifts for every holiday. We don’t want to accumulate more junk or unnecessary stuff, so this month I’ve found creative gift ideas for Easter. I chose to focus on 4 categories that I felt would encompass things that the girls could actually use and would truly enjoy. The categories I selected were: Something That’s Playful, Something That’s Artsy, Something That’s Practical + Something That’s Educational. Below are affiliate links for your convenience.
Something That’s Playful
1 || Wood Bow: We have so many amazing things from this shop (letter tracing boards, perpetual calendar, etc) and she makes a ton of high quality toys that would be perfect for Easter!
2 || Play Silks: We have the standard colored silks from this shop, but I bought the pastel ones for Easter. The girls love these! Ryan thought I was crazy when I bought them – he asked me if we were starting a magician show or a clown circus – but I had researched the benefits of play silks and everything I read was true! The girls dance with them, play dress up with them, use them as doll blanks, create forts…the play options are endless!
3 || Slumberkins: I was lucky enough to snag a chick for each girl before they sold out last month, but all of their creatures are wonderful! Rowan is especially attached to them – she wore her Bigfoot completely out, so now she sleeps with a Sloth and Chick.
4 || Rainbow Stacker: I realize that the large stacker may be a little pricey for an Easter gift, but this shop has so many beautiful waldorf-inspired toys! She is currently creating an extra large rainbow stacker for us and I really love her flower stackers as well. I found this shop because I really wanted to support a small business when purchasing a rainbow stacker, and she creates high quality items at a very fair price!
Something That’s Artsy
1 || Solid Tempera Paint Sticks: I absolutely cannot recommend a better art supply for you to try! These sticks contain solid tempera paint and dry in 90 seconds. We use them every day. I have the thin sticks, but Rowan will be getting the chubby sticks for Easter. Such a lifesaver when your kids want to paint, but you don’t want the mess!
2 || Sensory Playdough: Our go to scented sensory play dough! Just as smooth and amazing as the store bought brand, but adds an amazing sensory experience and supports a small business.
3 || Beeswax Crayons: These are the best crayons and we will never buy another brand again. Rilynn has the sticks and Rowan has the blocks.
4 || Watercolor Pan: Another fabulous art supply and so much better than the Crayola brand. The cakes absorb water so there are no puddles and mess!
Something That’s Practical
1 || Best Meal Mat: I cannot not say enough good things about this line of tableware. When we downsized, we got rid of almost everything except these. They suction to surfaces and kids can’t throw them off the table. They are dishwasher safe and amazing. We even have two of their dog bowls for our boxer!
2 || Sleeper Hero: When we moved, both girls began waking up 3-5 times a night. They also started getting up when it was still dark out. After a month, I felt like I had a newborn again. I looked at various “training clocks”, but I ended up getting both girls a Sleeper Hero. Oh my goodness – within 3 days they were back to sleeping through the night and not coming out of their rooms until 7:30am (when we set their heroes to shine green). The fact that they have a book to go along with the doll really helps and the girls love them! Now they come running into our room saying “I waited until he turned green!!!”.
3 || Water Bottles: We love Contigo. It’s the only travel mugs we buy and I recently got these water bottles for Rilynn. They auto-seal and are very easy to clean (only two pieces – lid and base). We use holidays to buy a new special cup for each girl. They love them and it’s more exciting than just buying them on a daily trip to the store.
4 || Underwear: A great “stuffer” idea for any holiday, no underwear compares to Carter’s. If you haven’t tried them, when you do, you won’t ever go back to another brand.
Something That’s Educational
1 || Vintage Preschool Encyclopedias: I’ve shared these on instagram, but these books are so amazing. They are from the 60s and 70s, so you have to find them used, but I’ve finally collected the entire set. They have learning prompts and activities on each page and Rilynn and Rowan LOVE doing them. The illustrations are beautiful as well.
2 || Creative Sticker Books: Rilynn dropped naps almost a year ago, but she still has daily quiet time. Her favorite activity to do in her room are these sticker pads. We have 5-6 that I rotate through and I have a new one for her Easter basket. She will literally play with these for over an hour at a time.
3 || Thoughts To Make Your Heart Sing: We absolutely adore our Jesus Storybook Bible and this book is another favorite. The illustrations are breathtaking and I love the easy to read truths on every page.
4 || 4-in-1 Puzzles: Another item that keeps Rilynn busy during quiet time! These are awesome because there are 4 puzzles in every box and they are compact – so they make a great “travel toy”.
