Today I want to share the new path we are taking for Preschool. After months of thinking and praying about what is best for my girls, I’ve made the decision to take a break from creating my own curriculum. This was a very difficult decision for me, as my Tot School + Literature Units have been such a labor of love and something I truly enjoyed. For those of you who have been following along with us since the beginning of the school year, I’m sure you have noticed how much more simplified the units have become. I recently shared that we would be taking on a Minimalist Homeschool Approach and I encourage you to read that post to see my heart and what went into making this decision.
I am filled with joy to announce that we will be starting The Peaceful Preschool on February 13. For those of you who want to continue on this journey with us, I encourage you to check it out! I passionately believe that this curriculum is an answer to my prayers – it is exactly where I was headed with my curriculum. It is both literature and alphabet based, and although it’s made to be one week units, we will most likely stretch them to two. I will still be creating printables and other materials to go along with the books (like our Animal Classification, Bible Verse + 3 Part Cards), but this curriculum will allow me to spend my free time with my family instead of glued to the computer.
The curriculum was created by Jen Pepito, who I first discovered through the Wild + Free community. She is a mother to 7 children and has homeschooled them from the beginning. I have such a deep respect for her & I have fallen head over heels for The Peaceful Preschool. It is very “open & go” and takes care of all of the planning and legwork that I have been doing the past two years behind the scenes. I cannot express what a blessing it has been to discover a preschooling method that fulfills everything on my “checklist” and will allow me to be present with my family again.
This is in no way a “negative” thing! For those of you who have purchased our supplemental books (Nature Anatomy, Maps, etc), we will still be using them. That is why I am stretching the units to two weeks. If you’ve acquired a laminator or preschool supplies – we will still be using those as well! Any families that were doing our units will be fully prepared to jump in with us if they choose to do so. I believe this curriculum will be a perfect answer to so many things that were jumbled or lacking in my curriculum. For those of you that desired more emphasis on letters, each unit focuses completely on a letter. The chosen book, the activities, etc. Eliminating the planning on my part will allow me to post more on the activities and projects for the units. It will also give me the freedom to post more about other aspects of our life (like Minimalism and our move to a Plant-Based Diet).
I do want all of you to know that my biggest fear was letting any of you down, but at the end of the day, I believe I have to do what is right for my family. This curriculum will last 26-52 weeks, depending on if we stretch every unit to two weeks. At that point I plan to reevaluate how things are going and then I will decide if I want to consider creating my own units again. For anyone who has wondered, we are planning to keep the girls at home for as long as it works for our family – so we are currently planning on at least the elementary years.
I have been getting a lot of emails about our daily schedule, which I was waiting to address until I made this announcement. I will be doing a full, detailed post on our daily/weekly schedule very soon and will also be updating the pages on the blog. For those of you who are interested in trying this curriculum with us, I invite you to download the first unit for free. It will be the “Letter A Unit” and we will be starting it on Monday, February 13 following our Hedgehugs unit. If you choose to continue the curriculum with us, it is very inexpensive, especially considering it is for a full year. I believe Jen priced it extremely fairly considering how much she put into it and the resources that are included! She has also so graciously created a special discount code for my followers! Use SIMPLE for $5 off her curriculum. And for those who are just looking for fun, book-based activities, you can still use our Instagram and blog for that purpose as well.
I have truly enjoyed the past two years teaching my girls and sharing our projects with you. I can’t wait to begin this new chapter and start The Peaceful Preschool! For more helpful information, be sure to check out:
