This Zoo Pretend Play activity was the biggest hit during our Good Night, Gorilla Preschool Unit! I received this huge box from Amazon a month ago and immediately came up with this idea. You only need a few items to recreate this project for your little one. Affiliate links below for your convenience.
I made two zoo cages for the girls, but somehow I knew they would both favor the large box.
For each zoo cage, just use a skewer to poke holes where you want the “bars”. I used 4-5 strands of yarn per bar and knotted them 3-4 times at the ends. It’s best if you leave a little slack, otherwise it can be tricky for kids to get in and out of the box without ripping the knots through the holes.
My youngest actually really loved the smaller box as well and I would find her hiding the animals and other objects inside.
Over the course of the unit, a bunch of friends visited and ALL of the kids loved this box. By the second week it was falling apart, but at least now I know what to do with these boxes when they show up on our doorstep! This only took me 10 minutes to create, but ended up providing countless hours of entertainment.
